Ingredients
Meat Filling
3/4 lb. lean ground beef
1/4 lb. ground pork
sausage
1 8-oz. can tomato sauce
1 clove garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon cornstarch
1/8 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon onion
powder
1/2 teaspoon dried onion
flakes
1/4 teaspoon oregano
1/4 teaspoon basil
1 teaspoon chopped flat
fresh parsley
Cheese Filling
1 beaten egg
3/4 cup ricotta cheese
1/2 cup shredded
mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup grated Parmesan
cheese
6-8 sturdy long-shaped sandwich
rolls
Directions
Preheat oven to 400°
F.
In a medium skillet,
cook ground beef and sausage until brown. Drain off
any fat. Add tomato sauce and all other Meat Filling
ingredients. Stir to combine. Cover and cook over
low heat for 5 minutes. Uncover and cook 5
minutes more, stirring frequently.
In a medium mixing bowl,
combine egg and cheeses and stir until blended.
Cut a thin slice off tops
of each roll (about 1/2-inch thick on the sides). Hollow out centers of bottom
parts of rolls, leaving 1/2-inch-thick shells. Spoon meat mixture into
hollowed buns (about 1/2-inch depth). Spoon cheese mixture over meat mixture
(about 1/4-inch depth). Spoon
another thin layer of meat mixture over top to cover cheese
mixture. Sprinkle about 1-2 tablespoons grated
mozzarella cheese over top of second meat layer.
Place roll tops back on top of rolls.
Wrap each sandwich individually in aluminum
foil and bake for 20-25 minutes. |
